Day 10: French Riviera
At 8am today we had breakfast then headed off for a long drive to the French Riviera. We drove for 3 hours with a 45min stop at a super busy servo then continued to drive for 2.5hours with a 1 hour stop in Arles. Followed that was a 1.5 hour drive, in which we arrived! The hostel here was in the middle of an industrial area, very far out from the city. It wasnt that clean and it annoyed me that the showers were in a carpeted hallway with no actual room to get dry/changed (it was just wet showers) (it’s all about the experience, right?). We were all on level 3, and there was no lift…. only a flight of single stairs that we had to carry all our luggage up roughly one at a time (great fun). In spite of the amazing hostel we did have a fancy beachfront dinner at an Italian restaurant (reminder, we’re in France again) and I got a really good carbonara and lots of wine. Later on we crashed in our concrete beds for the night (yay).
Day 11: French Riviera
Today we were told to pack our fanciest outfits as we were going for a casual day trip to Nice, then to Monaco for dinner. At Nice, I took a lift up to their lookout which was so incredible. We went for a walk and found cheap baguettes (love me more bread) and went for a walk in the main city, window shopping. We then had nutella crepes at a really expensive cafe, in which you need to pay to pee. I, however attempted to speak french to the waiter, which he was clearly impressed as he gave us free tokens to pee (hell yes). After that free time, we had a Contiki kick back tour to attend at the perfumery. I found this interesting enough, but it wasnt necessary to the trip (not complaining, its all about the experience). We all got changed in the bus (yep.) at the perfumery carpark (just think: makeup, tits, tears, selfies) before heading to Monaco. We had dinner in the Monacan palace city (burger queen), then we headed to the famous Monaco Casino (rich celebrities go there apparently) which was really dead for a Monday night (why no one gamble?). We met the bus at the famous hairpin turn for the F1 Grand Prix racetrack which was pretty cool to see. We then had a 3 hour drive on bendy, steep roads back to French Riviera to crash for the night.
